Product Overview
The Casper is an all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel sold by Casper and Sleep Country, priced at $1,499 for a queen. In third-party engineer testing that we commissioned, it scored well for edge support and motion isolation, with a low level of bounce. It has both open-cell and perforated foams to help with airflow, but the cover isn’t removable or machine washable. It also has relatively few cooling features.
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty if you order directly from their website. Purchases made through Casper’s website come with free returns with pickup service and full refunds, but if you buy through Sleep Country, returns are limited to a one-time exchange for a $65 fee. You’ll also have to take the mattress back to the store yourself.
If you’re looking for a Canadian-made option at a lower price, Douglas Original is worth considering. It includes a longer 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty, a removable and machine-washable cover, a higher cooling features score, and sells for just $799 for a queen size. It also ships with a free bedding bundle.

The Casper Mattress Construction
The Casper is an all-foam mattress that has a medium-firm feel. Even though Casper is an American-founded company, the company's Canadian operations were purchased by Sleep Country Canada in 2023. Since then, most of Casper Canada's mattresses are made domestically, including the mattress we ordered for this review.
Mattress Layers
The Casper is built with 3 foam layers, and is meant to measure 10" tall. The model we tested came in a bit shorter than that, so the layers listed below add up to about 9".
- 1st Layer: 1" Casper Signature foam with AirScape® Technology. This is Casper's proprietary open-cell and perforated polyurethane foam that helps excess heat escape the mattress.
- 2nd Layer: 1.5" memory foam to help absorb motion and relieve pressure points.
- 3rd Layer: 6.5" ProSupport polyurethane foam gives the mattress its firmness and helps prevent you from sinking too far into the layers.
Mattress Cover
The Casper mattress has a simple, modern look with a two-tone, colour-blocked design in shades of heather grey. The cover isn't removable, so it can only be spot cleaned. According to the law label, it's made from a mix of polyester, recycled polyester, recycled cotton, cotton, viscose, and spandex.
Mattress Testing
To ensure our mattress reviews are thorough and trustworthy, we buy the products ourselves and have them tested by independent licensed engineers (commissioned by us) with no stake in the results.
These third-party engineers apply a consistent testing process to every mattress using a detailed framework. Every mattress is tested the same way, whether it's foam or hybrid. Because these types perform differently, we rate them on separate scales to ensure the scores are fair and meaningful.
We believe independent testing is essential to producing reliable and meaningful comparisons. That's why all test results are reviewed and signed off by an APEGA-certified engineer, operating under a strict code of ethics.
We use the testing results and over 40 criteria to build our scoring methodology.
Tests and reviews without this level of professional oversight may be more prone to errors and unintended bias.

Delivery & Other Policies
Casper Canada ships their mattresses for free via UPS to most Canadian addresses. That said, the company currently ships to only a few cities in the Canadian Territories, and is only offering accessories for the time being. Your Casper mattress should arrive at your door packaged nicely in a box in about 5–15 business days.
Casper mattresses come with a standard 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty, which are pretty typical for the bed-in-a-box industry. If you bought your mattress through Casper's website or at one of their stores, returns are free during your trial, and you should be able to get a full refund.
Returns are different if you buy a Casper mattress through a third-party retailer. For example, Casper Canada's parent company, Sleep Country, only offers exchanges on their mattresses minus a $65 return fee. Sleep Country also does not offer return pickup service, so you'll have to take the mattress back to the store yourself.
Sleep Country might be the place to grab a Casper mattress if you're located in the Territories, since they'll ship mattresses there (for an additional charge). Be sure to read a retailer's specific policies before buying.

Company Overview
Casper was one of the first bed-in-a-box brands to gain widespread recognition in North America, launching in 2014. Since then, most of its competitors have joined the bed-in-a-box mattress industry with more specialized options, a lower price point, or a combination of the two.
Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. In 2022, Casper shut down its European operations, focusing on the North American market. In 2023, Casper sold its Canadian operations to Sleep Country Canada, and in 2024, its US operations were acquired by one of its suppliers, Carpenter Corporation.
Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor. Products are sold online, through branded retail stores, and at Sleep Country locations in Canada. Their mattresses sometimes have rotating sales or deals that may include free sleep accessories.
Customer Reviews & Feedback
Third-party review sites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot collect and publish customer feedback about companies and their products, and aren't controlled by the companies being reviewed. They offer a snapshot of overall customer satisfaction and highlight common issues shoppers might face. Checking ratings on sites like these can be a useful way for customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.
Casper has separate American and Canadian operations, but uses one combined Trustpilot page, which rates it as "Poor" with a 2.5/5 star review rating. Casper doesn't have a Canadian BBB profile, but it's American BBB profile has a rating of "A+" (unaccredited) and a customer review score of 1.17/5. Casper's parent company, Sleep Country Canada, has a customer review score of 1.3/5 on BBB, and is rated "Poor" on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Casper mattresses good?
The Casper earned solid scores in third-party engineer testing that we commissioned. It has a medium-firm feel that's generally comfortable for most sleep positions, along with strong edge support and motion isolation. At $1,499 for a queen, it also includes a couple of cooling features. Its 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty are fairly standard for the industry.
If you're shopping around, Douglas Original is worth a look. Like The Casper, it's a medium-firm, all-foam mattress made in Canada. But Douglas comes in at just $799 for a queen and includes more cooling features, a longer 365-night sleep trial, and a 20-year warranty. It also ships with a free bedding bundle.
Can I wash The Casper mattress cover?
No, the cover isn't machine-washable or removable. If you spill something on it, use a mild detergent and some warm water to gently clean any spills or stains, and let it air dry.
Is Costco Casper the same as regular Casper?
Casper has partnered with Costco in the past, but at the time of writing, it's not available there. Mattress brands that partner with Costco usually manufacture a unique, Costco-exclusive model, so the Costco Casper mattress likely has its own construction.
Where are Casper mattresses made?
Most Casper mattresses sold in Canada are now made domestically. According to a Sleep Country chat representative, all models except the Wave Snow Hybrid are manufactured in Canada.
How much does The Casper mattress cost?
Prices for The Casper range from $999 to $1,999 depending on the size. A queen size costs $1,499. It's available in sizes from twin up to split king.
Does the Casper mattress have fiberglass?
No, The Casper mattress doesn't have fiberglass.
Does The Casper mattress need a box spring?
No, The Casper doesn't need a box spring. According to Casper, their mattresses aren't compatible with box springs. Using one could void the warranty, because the springy surface may lead to uneven wear or premature sagging. Casper recommends using a solid or slatted foundation, platform bed, or adjustable base.
Can you flip a Casper mattress?
No, The Casper can't be flipped. The Casper is a one-sided mattress, and is designed to be used with the comfort layer facing up.
Can you repack a Casper mattress?
Not really. Once fully expanded, it's nearly impossible to compress and roll a mattress back into its original box without industrial equipment. If you need to return it, you can leave it expanded.
What Casper mattress alternatives should I consider?
If you're comparing options, Douglas Original is a good place to start. It's also made in Canada, has a medium-firm feel, and performed well in third-party testing. Douglas earned higher scores for cooling and motion isolation, and at $799 for a queen, it's more accessible. It also includes a longer 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with every purchase.

All the content on our site, from product reviews to comparisons, is intended to provide general information to help guide your mattress search. We work with independent third-party engineers to test all mattress products we purchase, and we use the test results alongside public data to inform our reviews and comparisons.
The product details in each review reflect how the mattress performed at the time we purchased and tested it, as shown by the "Published" date.
Since brands can update their materials, pricing, or availability over time, we also note when the product was originally purchased, either directly in the article or on our disclaimer page, to maintain clarity and transparency.
If you see an "Updated" tag on a page with a more recent date than the published date, it simply means we've made editorial changes. It does not necessarily indicate any update to the mattress or its test data.
Finally, unless otherwise stated, any mention of where a mattress is made refers specifically to the product we received and tested.
